I had a thought today, on the drive shaft oil transferring to the final drive .
Does anyone know, if there is a small orifice in the back of the transmission case, to vent the drive shaft housing to the transmission ?
My thought was, if there is a small hole there, and it gets plugged, the drive shaft housing would get 'pressurized' due to the air trapped in there, and can't escape when things get up to operating temperature .
Thereby pushing oil from the drive shaft area, into the final drive .
Anyone have a transmission removed, or a spare laying around, that could check to see if there is a vent hole .

My R60/5 (1971) had a terrible problem with this. I never solved it. It was possible to fix but meant a high-skill workshop job making a couple of new parts. I assumed later models had it sorted.

It's not specifically mentioned, but obviously from the text in that article, there is a vent hole somewhere in the area, that the universal joint rubber boot covers up .
Something else to look for the next time you have the transmission out .
