Title: Bean can plug
Post by: Darwin_R65 on March 28, 2010, 09:57:03 PM
Does anyone know if you buy the moulded plug that goes onto the bean can.

Mine is working electrically but age is beginning to show, and it's become fragile and falls apart a little more every time it get's disconnected / reconnected.

Really don't want to purchase a whole unit for the plug.

Find a breaker that has one in less-than-perfect shape?

You could try finding someone who advertises an overhaul service for bean cans. If it is available at all they would know.

When I added an ignition amplifier it was necessary to remove the condenser which on the points bean cans includes  the electrical connection plug. I wanted to retain the condenser as a back up in case the electronic ignition unit failed on the road.  The connection plug is just a bit of insulating material that fits in the square hole with the electrical connection passing through it so I machined one from nylon bar stock and made the spade connections from brass to fit .

I presume yours is the later bean can which I know is different but in principle you might be able to do something similar.(http://)

John,

I think this site has the female plug the bean can plugs into, but not the male connector.

I bought some terminals for my ICU socket and they were a good company to order from.

All the best,
