Title: Rear Brake Wear Indicator
Post by: Bob_Roller on March 19, 2010, 06:45:06 PM
Noticed this on the final drive housing of the '84 LS on Tuesday .

There is a line cast into the housing, a tear drop shaped piece of metal under the head of the bolt that pinches the arm that the rear brake rod attaches to, acts as a pointer .

Looks to be a brake lining wear indicator .

My '81 doesn't have this installed .

I have one on my 82 LS.   I've often forgot to put it back to pointing in a normal direction after doing any rear drive servicing.   I suspect many people removed them either intentionally or accidentally!

Yep, they should be there, easy to leave off if so desired or forgotten.

Quirky little part, ain't it?

When the day comes that you're ready to sell your ol' R65, remember to reposition the pointer thingy and then casually mention to your prospective buyer that, " there's plenty of brakes left..."  ;D
