Theres no way I can remove the rear brake pads on my R65 project.
Theres a 17 mm hex nut with no bite (almost flus with the pad). Is this the standard or did someone mess up?. I ordered the CLymer manual but cant wait for it to arrive. Any suggestions are welcome

Just unscrew the wingnut on the adjustment rod, to relieve any tension on the cam.
Then, just lift up on the shoes, between the springs - 90 degrees from the cam and pivot.
Should just flip off.

Thanks, just needed extra strength to flip the pads outs.
Front & rear pads done, front caliper replaced. Now for the fun stuf

By the way, welcome fermin!

While you're sorta still in the rear brake neighborhood... if you have a small, annoying gear oil drip off the bottom of the final drive casing; consider replacing the O-rings on the brake cam shaft. Worn O's will allow final drive gear lube to weep onto the brake drum surface and contaminate the shoe friction material. :(
Welcome aboard! Monte

I just tried this about a week ago, on the LS .
Instead of fighting the springs that hold the brake shoes in place,
'fold' the brake shoes towards you, and they will de-tension the springs and come right off .
You can do the same thing for re-assembly .

The folding method works best, I came upon it yesterday and now can get the pads in and out in 15 secs. Working on the master cylinder now....
Thanks for the welcome

Put a little bit of lithium grease on that frontshoe 'pivot' (that looks as if it has a hex head) where the brake shoe ends will ride on it.
If you get spring squeaking or vibrating sounds, BMW sells some rubber blocks that can be fitted on the springs to quiet them - these may or may not work for you, if needed. Some folks put some rubber inner tube or some heat srink tubing to dampen the springs, or go without. I run my LS without any rubbers on her brake shoe springs and no noise issues yet.
