Hello and good evening everyone. I am new here and I would like to know where-abouts I may find a leather type of cover for the tank on an 1986 year R65.
I have searched high and low over the internet for a replacement of my old one which was unfortunately torn to shreds and the dealer whom I purchased it off is no longer in business.
He moved from Cochrane AB to Washington state. Apparantly, he still has the same name for his 'working out of garage' business--Motospezial.
Never-the-less, I am looking for a cover and am unable to find one. I would like to know if anyone would have any information on where-abouts I could find one.
Again, it should be leather, fit over the entire tank as a protective cover.
Thanks in advance for your responses. :)

In this time of no one making them (last I heard was Mustang Seats, I got mine as they were emptying their shelves), about all you can do is find someone talented in the auto or marine upholstery business, that understands your needs.
Maybe even check with the local custom Harley shops for leads.

Wow. That would save me from having to repaint my tank. My knees are rubbing the paint off.
Will a magnetic tank bag work through those?

I use the Bagster system on a bunch of my bikes. I have a cover for my R90S, R1100RS and R1200ST. That allows me to move the tank bag from one to the other. I've been meaning to check to see if they have a model for the older R65s so I could put one on it.
Actually, it looks like they're recommending the same cover for both tank styles... I should go move the one on the R90S over and see how it fits.

yes. From my experience, mag tank bags do work through tank covers. Thank you very much for the lead. I will try there at Bagster. :)

I have Bagster tank cover and bag on my 86 model 650. Am very happy with the fit and look. Go to www.simplesite.com/kensbikes and have a look. Aussie Ken. ;D ;D

Nice pictures, Aussie Ken.
I will not be satisfied that Bagster has one for the twin-shock R65 until I see a picture of one on the bike, though.
Totally different tank.

I looked at the bagster.com website, and they do list a model number for the early R45/R65 models, but it seemed like they were giving the same model number as for the 6.3 gallon tanks on the bigger bikes. I have one of those for my R90S, so the next time it's off, I'll move it over to the R65 and see if it fits. The only attachment points are two hooks under the tank seam and two straps around the steering neck, so it could work.
