I have just located a 1985 G/S (not sure if 800 or 1000, frame, dodgy engine, no tank ... but a host of odds and ends. I'm not sure what.
I suddenly thought, "ah, I've got a donor bike for that project' .... but I'm not sure if I want a bastardised G/S or whether I should stick to my idea of turning 'mutti' into a cafe racer ......???

If you can get a good deal on it .
You can always part it out, afterwards if you change your mind .
-
Make that a REALLY good deal... if you decide to part it out on FleaBay. Monte

Help!! Does the gearbox/diff from a twinshock mount into an 85G/S frame. The one I can get my grubby paws on doesn't have the gearbox/diff assembly -
cost of the G/S is about US$ 1 300, but I think $700 or so might get knocked off.

Twin shock diff is incompatible with the monolever system. It could only be mounted on a G/S if the rear sub frame and swing arm was converted to a twin shock. I don't know if that's easily do-able. Also, has different ratio. Twin shock gear box usually lacks kickstarter (although few people would bother about that) but different ratios here would also detract from the ride quality. Good luck

Okay ... the fact that I'd have to source another diff makes it not worthwhile...... Oh, well! 'twas a nice fantasy while it lasted!

Hold onto the cash you've just saved, Steve. Be happy some knowledgeable peeps in the R65 Asylum kept you outta trouble. Another deal will pop up on of these days. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

.... it sounded nice for a while, but I'll stick with doing the cafe racer makeover
