OK so here I am sitting in Sunny Arizona for the next 3 months and my Ugly Betty ('79 R65) is sitting at home in the garage. I am putting together a list of parts I plan on ordering from Chicago BMW. One of the Parts I plan on ordering is a spring for the drive shaft. I think I may need a new spring because of the pulsating I experienced sometimes when riding the bike under heavy throttle.
So here's my question: Anticipating that I do need the spring on the drive-shaft, are there other components that I will probably need to go along with the spring?
-
The two parts that the spring pushes together, may be in need of replacement, but there's no way of knowing what condition they're in, until you disassemble the drive shaft .
The parts are a bit pricey as well .

Thanks Bob.
I'm guessing that you're talking about 8 and 9 in this parts diagram : http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=0353&mospid=47850&btnr=26_0112&hg=26&fg=05
If that's the case I will just wait until I have taken it apart to see what condition it is in.

That's them, you may want to order the circlip at the end of the assembly, it's just a small diameter wire ring .
How's the condition of the rubber boot that goes between the swingarm, and transmission ?
-
I believe the boot is ok but I think I'll order one just in case. I'll get the circlip too. Thanks Bob.
-
Almost forgot, there is a paper gasket between the swingarm , and the final drive .
-
OK I got the Swing Arm Gasket on the list. I can't find the part number for the rubber boot on the drive shaft. Anyone have this number?
-
The picture from the parts catalog you have referenced, it's item number 4 .

Thanks Bob. My wife often accuses me of being blind....she may be right.
