Title: Roundel replacement
Post by: NC Steve on April 06, 2007, 02:06:33 PM
Ok, don't know exactly how technical this is, but does anyone have a "correct" way to replace the roundel on an R65 seat cowl?
I just pried up the old one without scratching the surrounding paint, but also was left with a gluey, uneven surface where the old one was, as some of the foam backing remained.
Hair dryer & scraper, used very carefully?
Anything else I should be aware of, or any other tricks I should know??
Thanks.

Yeah, just get it over with!  Maybe some final cleanup with lighter fluid...

Just replaced my tank Roundels and I used a plastic paint scraper thingie. The kind used to spackle drywall. I cut it down a bit and sanded a sharp edge on it. Once all the foam was removed a wee bit O carb cleaner made quick werk of the remaining adhesive. Be sure to stand back and marvel at the shiny new roundel when first applied! I was thinking of putting one of those San Jose Roundels Part No. 16111232 at http://www.sjbmw.com/parts.asp?searchtype=0&cat=Other on the tail piece but I don't want to look tacky. So what say the assembled Richter do these look ok?
