Title: Crashbars
Post by: trolle on November 20, 2009, 04:12:57 AM
I'v just purchased these on the German Ebay together with a chromed luggage rack for only $56. They haven't arrived yet but I have been studying the photo and wonder how they are to be mounted.

The seller claims that they were mounted on a 1980 r65.

Any suggestions?

greetings from a for once sunny north

The drilled plate probably goes on the front engine mount and the clamp on the frame as it curves up to the head stock...Looks like the loop is undeneath the cylinders.

Can you get them on with an RS fairing?

+ 1 its suprising how many variations of design there are for crashbars
there are 3 mounting points on these one on the engine mount and two on the frame

I have a similar set ,but in black.the bottom bolt holes on these attach where the motor mount stud is.You have to remove the nuts, mount crashbar, than reinstall nuts (on both sides ).The top part of the crashbar where their are U bolts attached, bolt right on to the frame.I have had problems with the U bolts constantly breaking on mine. Then I went to hardened universal joint ,U bolts from a car.No more bolt breakage. Now they break at the welds on the crash bars themselves.Had them rewelded at least three times, on each side.Finaly took them off. Can't for the life of me figure out why they do this.Eggsesive frame vibration perhaps?Bike runs silky smooth though.

Thank you friends, and as Rob points out, I will always have the luggage rack, which is what I went for in the first place.

To Steve: I hope that they will fit with the rs-fairing, if not they will join the ever growing pile of stuff I hope to sell one day.

greetings from a as usual wet north
