Title: Bike Throttling Uo
Post by: Crossrodes on November 13, 2009, 03:34:15 PM
I took the R65 out to lunch today and had a problem with the bike revving up to 4000 at idle and when riding.  I first noticed it when riding along and when I throttled down it would not reduce revs.  I blipped the gas several times with the clutch in and sometimes it would work to reduce revs and sometimes it would not.  At another point I was sitting at a light in neutral and it started to rev right up to 4000.  This hap pended several times.

When riding and this happens I noticed it would sometimes reduce rpm if I had the clutch in and hit the brakes????

A couple of days ago when the bike was running fine I had a 50 km ride in the rain and I also put some Chevron Techron in the tank to clean our the fuel/combustion system.

Any thoughts?

First thought, would be the throttle cable system is hung up .

Second would be the centrifugal advance mechanism in the 'bean can' is stuck in the advance position .

Check the diaphragms !!! fuel additives are dodgy

Thanks guys.

I'm thinking cables or diaphragm.  I changed the cam seal and cleaned up the bean can this summer.  Oh well, time to put her away and maybe take her apart.  I wasn't planning on doing the carbs but I guess I'll spring for a kit from Bing this winter.

The fact that it sometimes throttles down when I apply the front brake is puzzling though.  I was wondering if I could have something that is obstructing the flow of gas in the tank and when I apply the brake the inertia moves the obstruction and allows the gas to flow again...just a thought.  What do you think?

There's enough fuel in the carb bowls, and the fuel lines to run the engine for a couple of minutes, so I don't think it's a fuel delivery issue .
