Post by: Lucky_Lou on November 03, 2009, 04:08:27 PM
I was drooling over a r80/7 and i noticed the r/h rear shock was mounted in the middle of 3 holes on the frame under the seat,my r65 is in the one nearest the tank yet theres only one hole on the otherside of the frame ? does that mean there offset?

I don't know what the other 2 holes are for on the RH side but they could never have been intended for mounting the shock as only the front hole supports the shock on both sides. Those two holes irritated me so much I put rubber blanking grommets in them to make them less obvious.

The extra holes on the right side of the frame, were originally meant for accessories, like radio boxes for police or military applications .

It could possibly be a modification.  There is only 1 hole in the inside bracket unless the owner has either added another or is just running with the bolt through the hole.  Mr. Roller has the correct answer.  My Denfield bag rack fits through one of the others on my R90/6.

The extra holes are for radio box and luggage accessories, as the other guys noted.  The shock should mount in the hole that puts it directly across from the left side mount point.

At least one vintage motorcycle magazine of questionable accuracy thought the separate holes might be for different shock positions - not right.
