Title: Tachless in Culver City
Post by: steven m on October 27, 2009, 09:57:41 PM
Proud owner of a nice, stock, 83 R65.  Cleaning up nicely.  Original blue paint with the silver pin stripping.  Tach not working.  Cleaned the connector plug, no change.  Headlight, turn signals, neutral light, generator light, all functioning.  Any suggestions as to where to start?  Is this common?  Grounding issue, tach dead, etc?  I did notice a connecter attached to green with brown stripes wires just sitting out between the gauges, but don't see an obvious place to plug it in.

Bike runs fine, idles smoothly.  Do not want to fry the ignition module.

You can start at the ignition coil, there should be two black wires on one terminal, one is for the coil, the other is for the tachometer .

I have a working R65 tach that will fit your bike, if you cannot get the current one "tach-in".  PM me if interested in buying.   Monte

If I can't get it working I'll let you know about your tach.

Thanks
