So, I just replaced the headers on my R65, and I've seen an increase in performance now that I have a solid pair of headers (without leaks). So, I'm thinking about taking this repair a little further.
With winter coming along, I was thinking about wrapping the headers and crossovers in a mineral fiber insulating tape. Which theoretically might add a little more power during my commute.
Aside from aesthetics, I was wondering if anyone had any advise on the matter.
Specifically, if anyone has experience with regards to how insulating tape hold up in wet weather and winter environments.

Co-worker has one of those funny, single cylinder Buells with heat wrap on the header pipe. Kinda tan looking fabric color. Has been installed for nearly two years with no ill effects to the pipe. Performance of the little scooter ain't much to talk about.
Side bar: As y'all know, H-D has shut down the Buell operation, laid of about 180 employees and also is pimping their interest in their Italian bike adventure. I forget the brand as I don't follow the tractor mfg closely. MV Augusta, is it?
Hot rod folk use a lot of the pipe wrap, too. Monte

I know about the theory that lagging the pipes will increase power a little Its something to do with when the exhaust gases cool down they slow down thus impeding gas flow but I've never seen it quantified. Is the increase just top end? that would be of little value.

I believe that it is Aprilia that H-D is looking to sell off its interests in.
I don't know if the heat tape will do anything noticeable to the performance, but I also didn't think that it did that much years ago on hot rods - I figured it was mostly to hide rust/discolored headers!
