Title: Clutch Question

Well It is time for the annual spring tuneup, and I figured it was time to check the clutch for wear. After pulling the rear swingarm, and gear box, I pulled the friction plate, and put the calipers to it. I have  a thickness of approximately 5.5mm. The Clymers recommends replacing the clutch at 4.5mm. Should I invest the $120 for the new plate, or can I safely get another year's usage out of the friction plate. I am leaning towards replacing it, but I have no idea how thick they are new to compare to the current condition.

First off, do you want to go back and do this next year? Second, I have been cautioned about just replacing the clutch disc, and using the old pressure plates. I guess it's quite common that the pressure plates develop a wavy contour to the contact area with the clutch disc, in some cases as little as 25% contact between the new clutch and plates, which leads to premature clutch failure (in as little as 10,000 miles).
