Title: bag mounts

i am looking at a bag mount system that isnt oem. looking at the bmw oem mounts it looks like there are three points to where the mount or secured. it looks like the oem mount to a spot rear the rear pegs, and the upper shock mounts and back by the rear lamps. so my question is if the new bag mount system uses the mount near the rear pegs and one way back along the seat rail is that enough? would it need another mount?

Do you have a name or link to the manufacturer?

I couldn't imagine wanting less than three.  Even the loop mounts are not "triangulated" and are, IMO, a compromise.

I'm not sure what the "Z" (BMW mono-shock) mounts are like.  But I bet they have three bolts.

Jon, the best I can remember, either the Factory or some aftermarket company used to make bag mounts with just the two higher points, but they would break at one of them.  After that the lower point by the passenger pegs was added.  On my crude home made mounts for my Perry Scott bags, I've used all three points because I don't intuitively feel the upper two are sufficient.  Heck, the load swings.

i will share with everyone when i do this, i am going to install some givi bags on mine. i found the oldest model they had for mounts, the mounts are for a 02 R something GS. I have to go look on the bag they came in. they wont take much to mount with a little cut here and a little weld there. the bags are not cheap along with the mounts, seems like everytime i look on ebay for them i paid just about as much as some of them, except mine are new.

next question is then to help keep the three point can i use the rear fender as a mounting point? if i put a mounting plate on the inside so the fiberglass wont take the full stress then? i can mount low on the rear sub frame mount, and up near the rear subframe rear seat loop, and then on the rear fender side wall???

Yeah, that fender is very flexable.  And plastic, too, I believe, which doesn't really make a difference.  Neither material would be up to the stress, even with an internal brace, unless that brace was then connected directly to the subframe.

Rob, wasn't it somebody on this board (Bob, maybe?) who had his rear fender fracture and his turn-signal bar fell off?  I can imagine what a trunk would do!

When I get my R65 back I will take pictures of the Krauser Bagmounts with the Givi Universal mounts on 'em.  I had to re-inforce the aft luggage rack to get the top case from cracking the mounting bracket.

I have two Givi E41 panniers and an E52 top case (with brakelight).
