Title: Re boring an R65
Post by: scottyintex on March 25, 2007, 02:46:35 PM
When you re bore an R65..take it to the first bore.....what does that take the engine size to? Does that really translate into more horse power?  Not that my bike will need it anytime soon, just curious.

If you're expecting a huge displacement increase, forget it. Did the math once, so can't remember the exact amount, but it's less than a cc. In fact, the only increase in power you will experience will be from the fresh rings and possible valve job done. But as the swept volume is now more, the compression ratio will increase ever so slightly, there may be a small gain from that but definitely not enough to feel with the seat of the pants (usually you can start to feel about a 3 hp change).
BTW, what year 65 are you running? If it's >'80, you won't be re-boring Nikasils, so the discussion is purely academic.
Bill.....................;-)
