Title: New noise

When in neutral with the clutch out I can hear a tick tick tick but it goes away when I pull the clutch in ?? Sounds like its skipping off a gear as if not full disengaged/engaged. Driving fine shifting fine, just rode over to Tractor Supply to pick up some 3/16" x 1" flat bar to modify the "Reynolds Rack" to carry my old trunk which I use to take my Chihuahua with me. Tractor Supply is amazing , there new to this area.
 Any way which one of you wise men has the answer ? you people are amazing with all the knowledge you have. Thanks

That's pretty much normal operation for an old airhead transmission .

When you drain the transmission oil next time take a real good look at it, just to be certain that there isn't anything more than some light filings in there.

The bottom of the drain pan should have a light metal flake paint look to it .

Before I had my transmission overhauled, I would dilute the gear oil with alcohol, and then strain it through a white paper towel, and see if anything of significance could be found .

 I don't know if there is any truth to this or not, but I've been told that if the carbs aren't synchronized correctly, this will accentuate the transmission noise .

OK thanks. I've changed the trans fluid since i got the bike and didn't notice anything alarming so I guess its OK. My son has one of those manometers or syncing things . Next time he comes up from DC he will bring it . But thanks for the reply.

Just out of intrest what sort of frequency does the tick have is it in sinc with the engine could it be comeing from the clutch?

It's not just one click, it's more like multiple clicks combined together , into an unusual noise, if you're not familiar with it, it could be a bit of a worrisome noise, kind of like the valve noise .

I think Justin had said at one time, that it was the gears making the noise on their shafts, and the power pulses from the engine at idle, but I can't quite remember the entire explanation .

I'm assuming it with the clutch as when you pull in the clutch it stops.

When you pull in the clutch lever, the clutch disengages, and the transmission stops turning .

not if your in neutral.There could be some drag through the bearings
