Title: Electric Mud Guard Location
Post by: Mike V on August 08, 2009, 06:02:07 PM
Can someone help me locate the correct positioning and installation of the "mudguard" as shown in the attached link

Reference #19 on Real OEM.

Looks like it attaches to the frame rail and is secured through the two holes with a tie strap. I'm assuming somewhere around the coil?

It's right behind the horn. It does a pretty good job of keeping road debris off the engine and out of the fuel tank tunnel where the ignition and electrics reside.   Monte

Monte,

On the upper or lower horizontal rail? Here's a picture, a little hard to see.

I think you can see this item just in front of the coil.  I always thought it's purpose was to keep crud/water/etc. off the coil...

Would a points-model R65 benefit from the addition of this, I wonder?

Rob, I suppose it would keep crud and spray from getting the front coil dirty!  But, I also wonder about it blocking airflow to the coil.

Good point.  It would make my bike heavier, too.  ;)
