Title: Boot leak again?

Well, I have been enjoying my newly rebuilt carbs riding and tweaking getting them as perfectly matched as I can.

Got it feeling better than ever ...went out for a nice highway speed ride
about 65mph felt absolutely right.

Got back to my garage popped it up on the center stand looked down and saw my old nemesis....gear lube dripping off my my shiney new boot?

It looks like it may have burped out of the hollow speedometer battery neg bolt?

Is this possible ?normal? my gear box hasnt leaked a drop lately and it's not over filled but I did go for a longer than ever highway speed ride...I'm perplexed?

Maybe a drop came off the clutch lever/piston assembly at the back of the transmission - possibly the boot back there has a crack in it or the clamp isn't quite tight?  A bit of gearbox oil is supposed to get back onto the  piston and bearings which are covered by that small rubber boot.  Occasionally my R65 will let a drop of oil from there onto the floor after alot of riding.   If you had your right boot underneath while putting it up on the centerstand that might have been what happened, perhaps?
If so, and it is only a drop or two, I wouldn't worry much about it.  You can go in there and clean &lube everything and replace the little rubber boot&clamp at your convenience.

I'm pretty sure it came out of the hollow bolt....the leak path seems to originate exactly there.

Thats so weird? I've put a few hundred miles on it and no leaks at all today a little higher speed sustained riding and it leaks?

How much gear lube did you put into the transmission ?

Have you checked the condition and security of the plastic bushing that is inserted into the transmission, that holds the speedometer drive cable, and also the condition and security of the rubber boot that covers the transmission cable and the bushing .

The gear lube in the gear box was perfect to the cc and level with the bottom of the filler hole.

The speedo rubber boot is new ...the u joint rubber boot is new....I have never checked the plastic piece inside.
