Title: Exhaust pipes?
Post by: beemer on July 10, 2009, 04:19:50 PM
Has your exhaust pipes turned a blue colour?iv'e seen some bikes which have this, others don't?is it just a factor that some bikes run hotter then others?.

I have seen exhaust headers for some model BMWs that have double-wall construction to try and reduce the blueing so common with single-wall MC exhausts.

Many dollars spent on so called Blu-Away polishes that seem to dull the finish more than 86 the blue. Blue is sorta your motorcycle's badge of honor.

There are aftermarket stainless steel header pipes and I think some that are double-walled, like Monte said.  I lot (most) of your jap bikes use (or used to use) double walled pipe.  Until the later part of the 20th century BMW engineers seemed obsessed with weight and it seemed every year the bikes would shed a few pounds.  It seems this thinking went out the window once the Ks and Oilheads took over...

Blue is normal. I like the blue colouring on chrome pipes.

Not so sure about the brownish colour that stainless pipes take on.

Don't even waste your time trying to get the blue off, and keeping it off, unless you need some physical exercise !!!
