Title: Speedo cable bolt
Post by: Landlubber on July 11, 2009, 03:44:37 AM
I have read elsewhere that the bolt for the speedo cable, the one that hold the battery neg, is in fact a hollow bolt and allows the transmission to vent.

Can anyone enlighten me further on this please. I have two R65LS bikes, neither of them have hollow bolts.......

'lubber,

Check the bolt head and the other end very closely. The hole for the vent is somewhere in the range of 1/64 inch. The gun barrel-drilled hole extends the length of the bolt and provides an atmospheric vent for the gearbox.

Mine was plain ol' dirty and I didn't even notice it until someone on this site directed me. If yours has gone missing, your area stealership would be the source.

It is a very small hole, here is a pic of a stainless replacement I sell a few of.  The stocker is a regular hex bolt head.
