Need a more or less stock seat for the R65 I just landed... Found a nice R65LS seat, but he says it's "slightly different"... What are the differences... Will it work? HEP... And Thanks!
-
It won't match up with the standard R65 rear / tail cowling - the angle of the rear seat pan is angled differently to match with the LS specific rear cowling. Now, if you get an LS specific rear cowling too, you'd be OK - unless you have a "standard" unit pannier frame with integrated rear luggage rack, which will NOT work with the LS-specific rear cowling (luggage rack bars run afoul of the LS passenger grab handles). The separate left/right pannier frames that do NOT have a rear luggage rack built into them will work with the LS rear cowl, though.

Does your new bike have a seat at all?
if so but it's trashed there is a diy upholstery kit available on ebay for $50.00 I'm thinking about it as my seat is tearing on the left side pretty bad.

Bike came with a custom two-rider touring seat (Corbin? Can't tell) in decent shape, and my wife really likes the plushy seat... So I want to get a second, fairly flat seat to use when I ride alone, which is 95% of the time... The dual touring seat puts me a little too far forward for comfort.

Sounds like time to start watching ebay!

What year is your R65.
The '78-'80 used a seat different than the '81-'84 models.
And the LS was unique, and the '85-on were different, as well.

NW Classic supplied my replacement seat cover for the '83 R65. A good product with nice instructions. A heat gun is your friend on this job. Check my R65 seat cover DIY photo essay in the Photo Gallery section. Monte

Monte , that's the one I have my eye on!
Does it really look as good as the picture on ebay?
-
It's a flat sheet of upholstery material with one seam sewn at the front. If you follow the instructions -did you look at my photo DIY- it will look like the promo shot. Monte

This is the PO's seat cover as it was fitted; two-tone -ugh- with material split in several spots along the seat pan edge and worn through from fuel tank contact. Several rivets in pan had also pulled through the fabric. Pretty rough all over.

NW Classic cover installed along with a vinyl U-channel guard arond the seat pan perimeter. Check with a saw blade sharpening shop; ask for the band saw vinyl guards that they usually toss out.

Hey, I resemble that remark! I've met Monte though and we're definitely talking pork chops and puppies where his looks are concerned.
