Has anyone ever used a Gunson's Colour Tune to set the mixture on the R65?is so,how as it?
-
Don't recall the manufacturer's name but I had a ColorTune way back in the day. I attempted to figure it all out but finally quit trying. Not sure if it was Snake Oil or not. Monte

Yes I have one and, in conjuction with balanced carbs gives superb results!
Highly recommended :)
I think they are still available at Halfords for about 20 quid.

It is the 'standard' 14mm plug version, see link:

Good old airheads with 14mm plugs as the 12mm &10mm plug colortune are more expensive!

I have one of these!!had it for years, not sure if it's the Gunson's 500 model which has a tapered thread i believe,it's quite short, and i was wondering if it might blow out!!which one do you have?

I have what I believe is an older version of the Colortune .
It doesn't have what looks like the white ceramic insulator from a spark plug, over the clear glass viewing window .
Mine arcs across the glass surface, and 'shorts out' the ignition on the cylinder that it is installed in .
I've tried RTV type sealants over the center electrode where it goes into the glass, but still can't stop the arcing .
So be sure you get the newer model .

Mine actually has the ceramic insulator,so should be ok,i might give it a go tomorrow.

Used the colortune this morning, what a great item this is,one carb was ok,the other slightly off!!!after adjustment, that nice blue colour shown in both pots, both are running in harmony, balanced the carbs afterwards and the job is a "good un". :)

I have two Colourtunes....different models, but both work.I used then to set up twin cyl motorcycles.I haven't used them on the R65.....but will do if I want to set the idle again.
