Title: KG hard bags
Post by: dbilik on June 29, 2009, 11:51:34 AM
Hi,

Will KG hard bags taken off a 1977 R75/7 fit a 1980 R65?

Thanks!

KG Hard bags?  Never heard of them.  You have any pictures to share?

Me neither - could they be "Krauser knock-offs"?

The general issue with the R65s is that a number of bags can work - the tricky part is whether one can get the frames/brackets that bolt onto the bike to which the bags attach to fit.   The R65 has a lower seat/toprail height, slightly shorter swingarm length, and the lower bolt hole near the passenger footpegs where a bolt is usually used to secure the lower front of the brackets/frames is oriented 90 degrees rotated from that on the R80/R100 of the same vintage.   I think that some of the earlier R75 parts may fit with modifications of varying degrees, but I am unfamiliar with the "KG" bags of which you speak.

I've never heard of them either.  They are for sale on craigslist and the seller is not sure the mounting rack will fit.  He's asking $100.  The ad has 3 pictures.  This is a link to it:

Thank you.  The lower bolt sounds problematic.

Hmmm - I really have not seen those before !
If you can get the poster to take good pictures of the frame mounts, maybe with a ruler net to them for scale, it might help.  Offhand I don't think that I'd gamble $100 without more info & pics.

Whether or not they will fit depends on how determined you are!  If they were on a '77 Beemer then the mounts should be close but will require some modification...
