I just fitted a Metzler 4.00x18 "V" rated tire on the back and I'm now ready to buy the front tire.
I got the V rated back tire because I was told it was stickier but softer than an h rated tire.
Now I'm noticing that the Metzler 90/90-18 is only available in an "h" rating.
Is it ok to mix the h and the v ratings or is this a no -no?
The most narrow V rated front I've found is 100/90-18...

Which Metzeler rear tire did you have installed on the rear ?
I just checked my front tire, and it's a 100/90-18 .
The front rim on an R65 is 3.25 inches wide, which converts to 100/90 in metric size, according to the conversion charts that I've seen .

Hi Bob,
It's the Lasertec 4.00x 18v

I do not, IMHO, believe you will experience any problems with a mixed speed rated tire on the front vs rear. Most of us ride R65s as our favored bike. Also, most of us rarely see the other side of 100mph on these 650cc bikes. Here's the speed ratings of your tires:
V = up to 149mph
H = up to 130mph
There's also another thread nearby that discusses 90/90 vs 100/90 fronts.

Seeing as you have a Lasertec rear tire, why not get the Lasertec front tire as well ?
I've been using the ME33/ME99, which is now the Lasertec series, since 1987, and the only negative with the tires ( other than the price), is they need a good warm-up in cold wheather, before you ask too much from them .

I called Metzler today for a " from the horses mouth" so to speak answer.
Bill at Metzler said as long as the motorcycles top speed doesnt exceed
the lower speed rating it is perfectly ok to mix V and H tires a slong as they are the construction (radial etc...).

cant spell...I meant "as long as they are of the same construction.

You can 'modify' your posting, if you misspell, or want to change it .
Just hit the modify box at the top of the posting .

Thanks Bob, I'm not only new on bike wrenchin' but I'm fairly new to this forum thing...
So I did a lot of neurotic ocd investigation and have decided on the Metzler Lasertec 100/90-18V front.
The 90/90 looks like it's closer in aspect ratio to the 3.00 size and 100/90 (as Bob stated earlier) is roughly equivelent to the factory recomended 3.25 a. ratio size.
It has a dry rotted 3.00 on there now so I thought I'd start with as close to factory recomendations as possible.
