Title: BMW special tools
Post by: ukzknos on June 29, 2009, 09:07:29 AM
Does anyone have the following special tools, or drawings detailing them?

Timing Cover Puller, ref. 11-1-800

Alternator extractor bolt, ref. 12-3-600

Failing this, what do you use to remove said parts?

I feel a coming of a new timing chain.

Thx
Steve

I couldn't find the numbered reference for the timing cover puller, I removed mine without any specialty tools, just common hand tools .

The alternator rotor puller, is usually not a difficult tool to find, try Motobins, I'm sure they have the tool .

Motobins part number : 99700 .

After removing all the obvious and hidden 6mm (I think) Allen screws securing the timing cover, a light tap with a soft mallet, or your fist, should do the trick. All this heat this area and use BMW special tool stuff wasn't required on my recent timing chain gig.

The alternator rotor removal tool is golden and highly recommended. At 5-6 USD, it's worth keeping in your tool box.

For some photos and tips on the chain job, visit my Timing Chain Replacement album in the Photo Gallery section. Might save you some time.

And by the way, it's not a difficult job unless you count pulling the freakin' exhaust system.[smiley=furious3.gif] Watch your nuts! Exhaust headers nuts, that is.
