Title: Front Engine Cover

Noticed a difference between the front covers on a standard R65, and an LS .

There's a rectangular hole on the left side of the cover at the bottom .

Moisture drain ?

Bob,

My '84 R65 has the rectangular hole on the left side of the cover at the bottom.

I think this is a "later model" change.  I always thought it might have something to do with improving cooling...

It's like a 'ventiport' from a Buick !?!  
(OK, folks not from the USofA will not get that reference... that's fine).
My '82 LS does not have such an orifice..  I'll dig thru my "BMW History" book to see if I can find out more..

My 1983 R65 has no such port.

Bemmer et al,

When I posted the images and saw how bad the pipes look on my own 'bike I had to take a deep breath and remind myself that this is my regular rider and I'm not going to get bent out of shape if it needs cosmetics.

I really am having fun riding my R65.  The weather has been a bit hot (low 90s) but I've had no corporate stuff to do in the past ten days, so the BMW has been ridden between home and work twice a day.  Why is that when I ride the journey is at least three times the distance than when I drive my Buick?

You got some nice bikes Mark,i have a friend who has a BSA Road Rocket,i'm trying to get it from him,but he ain't moving yet!! :(

Mark,

Sit back with a cold whatever, and relax.  Your closeups look great, as far as I can tell.  That is, about the same as mine, but cleaner!
Replacement headers are definitely on my long list.  It runs with the ones I have...

I'd be happy just getting my bike back together so I can try and enjoy that ride to & from work, on these wondrously warm days!

Quite a line up along the fence at work as I pulled in this afternoon.
The absence on an airhead was obvious...

Enjoy your rides on the northern hemisphere, fellow riders.
Be careful.


Oh, and I haven't a clue about the vent.  I have seen them before, but  never questioned it.  My '79 cover does not have one.
