Title: HELP! Running out of clutch adjustment

I just noticed my clutch is dragging horribly so I adjusted the clutch at the bar end, but the afdjuster is almost all the way out and there's no more adjustment at the cover.

I have put a spacer into the cable at the end where it goes onto the arrm, but what could have caused this.

It did need adjusting a few weeks ago, but it hasn't been ridden in over a week and Friday's ride was 25km on a highway apart from about 2km so the clutch was hardly used.

Any ideas why it would suddenly need adjustment. Clutch cable was fitted less than a month ago and it was a brand new clutch in Feb. Pressure plate, thrust ring, shaft & seals etc

I just wonder whether Ray has fitted the correct clutch cable ? They are very helpful and competent - but they do make mistakes by times.

When I ordered a cam follower from them during the previous year, they have sent me the wrong part.........

Check the adjustment bolt at the clutch lever arm on the backside of the transmission, it has a lock nut, may have come loose, allowing the adjustment to be altered .

Tks Bob, but the adjuster on the rear cover is screwed all the way in.

It almost seems as thought the cable is too long, but it was fine for the few days I used it after the old cable broke, and now its all gone south.

I haven't used it for almost 3 weeks as I've had road test bikes and it was gettring new pushrod seals.

Is the metal end on the outer sheath of the cable still locked into the small 'ear' on the right side of the transmission ?

Yup, it is in the slot etc ..... I can only think that the little bearing thing has collapsed or something ..... will strip the lever mechanism as soon as I get a chance.

If the bearing has disintegrated it would cause the lever to act like that but also impart some abnormal noise into the equation.  BUT, if you've never serviced this it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a go at it...
