Title: Front wheel bearing replacement.
Post by: BooG on June 05, 2009, 09:38:22 AM
Failed MOT this morning on noisy bearings at front, so pulled em out. One side was OK, other was shot. For anyone who hasn't seen a wasted front wheel bearing race, here is the offender on the left, with the OK one on the right for comparison. Easy to get out, hopefully as easy to re-install tomorrow! I hear there is an issue with getting the right pre-load. Anyone done it? Read Duane's "shakey" method for re-installing..?!

Maybe all the vibration from that bad bearing was contributing to your flickering lights!  :D

LOL...  If that "bad" race has been cleaned and still looks like that then it's for sure FUBAR.  Any reason it might have gotten like that?  Ride in the rain a lot?  Oh, sorry, forgot where you live...  :P

How did you get the races out?  I thought there was some special puller, but I've never done it on my R65.  Sorry, nor have I done the shim set up....

I'm in the same boat as you, Ed, but I believe heat is supposed to be applied...

Actually, since cleaning a re-lubing my head bearings the light are better(brighter)so the earth contact must have been bad,so your not far from the mark with your comment Justin!!
