Title: Crankcase Breather Hoses
Post by: Crossrodes on May 13, 2009, 08:36:17 AM
The hoses which lead into the air-box in my '79 R65 are shot.  I just checked out some prices to replace the hoses...$20+ for the hoses leading into the air-box and $35 for the main hose.  It seems to me that you should be able to fabricate some hoses for this purpose.  Has anyone done this and what did you do?

By hoses are you referring to the suction funnels from the air box to the carbs?  I don't recall any hoses specifically.  See the link to the Max BMW microfiche...http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/MainDiagrams.asp?mospid=47851..., to confirm.  If it is the suction hoses they are less than $12 each from Max but there are many other sources.

Mine are also shot so I'm just going to run a hose from the breather, get a T-piece and feed a hose into each carb intake.

I did think of a straight breather hose with one of thos K&N breather filters, but figured maybe the carbs need a bit of lube ..... am I right in my theory?

Carbs need no "lubing", the crankcase venting is done there just to have somewhere to get rid of it!  A number of folks either run this to a "catch-can" or to a little K&N filter.

Bengt Phorqs I'm refering to items 10, 12 & 13 in this diagram:

All three of those hoses, are kind of specific for their usage, I think that with the time and effort involved, it would be easier to just replace them with OEM parts.
