Title: brake rattle?
Post by: ambrose78 on May 03, 2009, 10:20:22 PM
Ever since I got my bike my front brakes rattle over bumps when not in use. Kindof a faint tapping sound. If the brake is applied - even lightly the rattle dissapears.

It is a brembo caliper.
There are no loose bolts that I can see on either the disc or the caliper.

Is this normal?

I'm not sure about the Brembo calipers, as I have ATE calipers.

There is a tapered pin with what looks like a piston ring on the thick end.

The pin is tapped into place to hold the brake pads in place.

Remove the ribbed plastic cover on the top of the caliper, and see if the pins have backed out.

The Brembos also have an "anti-rattle" spring between the two pins.  Maybe that's MIA?

So does my VW Cabriolet. Without them being installed, it's rattle city.

Bingo - No spring.

Now what sort of spring is supposed to be there?

This is the brake pad mounting hardware kit:
