Striving constantly to diagnose my low rpm screech I've decided to replace the old type crankcase breather with the later reed type. I know it isn't the cause but the 'turkey gobble' has to go anyway!
Has anyone done this previously and if so, any tips (without buying a specialist tool) for removing the old valve body from the engine casing?

OK, sorted it out this evening!
32mm socket, long self tapper with washer, 10mm spanner and 10mm allen key.
If anyone needs to know in future drop me a line :)

If you took a couple of pics as you went along it would make a good "how-to" for the Wiki...

Sorry Justin I didn't know how that worked but I can post a sketch on there illustrating the technique.
Can any member write on the wiki then?

Yes, all you have to do is register (on the Wiki site) and you will then have authoring priv.

I thought all of the R65's were mfg'd after the factory had switched to the reed-type valve? No?
And (IMO) the turkey gobbling is just one more quaint trait of these wonderful machines!

As long as you're a PC and not a Mac user >:( For some reason, even though I'm registered and recognized by the Wiki page, I'm not able to find any entry for posting. Monte

{rubbing hands together in anticipation} I look forward to a couple of really interesting articles by "Monte."
