Title: Swingarm bearing shields
Post by: Justin B. on March 21, 2009, 02:09:40 PM
I remember that a while back there was some discussion of seals/shields on the swingarm bearings on later (post '80) bikes.  As far as I know there were none installed from the factory, BUT  they are available from bearing manufacturers.  I ordered a few from NSK and just installed the new bearings, with shields, into the Junkyard LS and although they are not going to "waterproof" anything they might help keep crud out of 'em.

Just curious as to what they look like, is it comparable to an automotive wheel bearing grease seal, a flanged washer with a plastic or rubber coating on the flanged part ?

No, strictly a metal shield...
