I'm thinking of ordering a Nokya hyper yellow H-4 bulb for my headlight on the '79 R-65 -i've been told they are really visible during the day. Anyone ever tried one & is the 70/80 rating too much for the electrics?
Thanks, Bill

I haven't tried the Nokya hyper yellow bulb but I do have experience with yellow fog lights. On my GS I have two PIAA lights, one white the other a yellow fog. All my riding buddies tell me the yellow light is highly visible during the day. For this reason I am adding a yellow PIAA light to my R65. I believe you may lose some night time visibility using a yellow light in the headlight.

If you install that bulb, you may want to consider using a relay to operate it.
70/80 watts for low/ high-beam, may cause you problems with the wiring and switch.
A 30 year old wiring harness, and small diameter wire just might not be up to the task.
I don't have a wiring diagram handy, but if memory serves me correct, the headlight is not protected by a fuse, and you are going to be drawing a few extra amps with this bulb.

Roger that, Bob. No circuit protection for the headlight. A relay will not only protect the wiring but may just likely increase the bulbs output due to creating a more direct route to the bulb from the battery, thereby bypassing much of the "vintage" wiring.
Relays are good.
