If I connect a multimeter between the neg cable of the battery and a ground, it shows about .16 volts with the key in the off position. I see no reason for that and can find no wires which look damaged and i have looked carefully. Any ideas.

You may have re-invented the antenna.
Disconnect the earth and put the meter on mA in series. Try 20A then 200ma etc in case you do have something leaking.

I need to patent that idea before the Chinese can steal my idea. Did the amp check and got zero.

:)
These don't pick up much RF. They were still in use when I was an apprentice. Big, heavy and reliable. Much like my greyhound.....

Analogue meters are better at something and are still very useful. I have my telecom multi meter and it gets a lot of use.
Sadly I missed out on getting an avo meter

I had a Model 8 Avo until one day I dropped it and destroyed the movement.
