Title: forks
Post by: Happy Eeyore on January 17, 2026, 06:27:19 PM
Today forks-  I drained and and took them apart and cleaned   Lots of dark crud.  No bumper was found.  I am guessing the crud was the bumper.  All metal looks good. Awaiting parts.

Somewhere on this forum I read that the old bumpers turned to slush.  i thought they were kidding.

They go brittle with age and then break up.  Depending where you get them from, new ones can be polyurethane rather than rubber.

I suppose you could run without them.  The parts show no damage from their absence and unless you go jumping tractor tires or big logs as a regular activity my guess is that it is not a problem to not have them.  So has anyone seen bad results of any kind by running without the bumpers.  I have new ones coming and will put them it but ??????
