Title: Wainfleet Bike night - 500+ bikes!
Post by: dogshome on September 01, 2024, 12:52:25 PM
Hi All, my other bike at Wainfleet on Saturday. Note outdoor bar, fish and chips, band and masses of all sorts of bikes :-)

The orangish HD with a skull on almost every body part (including rocker covers) was groovily excessive

Looks like a fun time. Lots of nice bikes and trikes there. Trikes are becoming more appealing as I am aging. I wonder if anyone has ever built a BMW trike?

I'm not aware of an airhead trike. I'm not sure it's a good candidate, although you'd think an axial drive coupling would connect to some sort of conventional back axle with a sealed bearing (conventional) prop shaft easily.

My personal view is that cutting up old airheads for bobbers and trikes is sad. An old, unloved or wrecked UJM being ideal. Power and acceleration on a heavy airhead trike might also be an embarrassment!

I saw a Yamaha XVS 1100 small trike with single saddle rider and WWII Stahlhelm helmet on the way to work. I smiled. Each to his own. I'd want more oomph and less outdated 'attitude'. Not the V8 and V12 monsters that were at Wainfleet last year, but a Hayabusa or something like that  8)

There is a guy that rides his BMW around town with his dog in a sidecar. Guess I should track him down and talk to him.
I built a VW trike years ago, owned a HD 45 flathead trike back in the 1980s. The VW would go on the freeway, the flathead not so much. This guy cut up a BMW and built a chopper. He seems happy.
