First off. 1993/4 can with Hall sensors. Is it possible to reassemble any parts incorrectly? Besides the washers. I'm ok there.
Took my bean can apart and organized it into a ft sq diorama at the kitchen table.
Then my heart sank. In haste and overconfidence I forgot to take pictures and paint dot the points where reassembly might be ambiguous. It's been a long while since I've done this stuff so I've fallen out of good practices.
The slots for the Hall sensor are exactly 180 degrees and everything else appears symmetrical. Am I ok?
I've been chasing high idle for a while through the carbs and linkages to no avail. I had squirted lube through the bean can inspection hole and it fixed nothing so I stopped suspecting it as a cause. When I finally got around back to it I disassembled and found both springs had jumped their posts. One spring was fine. the other badly mangled. I've found my culprit. Or most of it anyway.
Now to see about finding the springs locally for a buck each instead of 18 dollars each online.
Not worried about exactly matching. Same gauge wire and same diameter ought to be close enough. Length doesn't matter. Longer is ideal. Plan is to hang the good original from a wire on a verticle board and hang enough oz from one end to stretch it 3/8 of an inch. Mark the spot. Do the same weight with the replacements. Mark the spot. Adjust new springs as needed by snipping then bending down a new loop. Until I hit the mark with the same weight.
Might even err on the side of slightly stiffer to account for the age of the originals.

...and if still unsure, get an ignition strobe. If it's jumping all over, or heading for full advance at idle, then you have a problem.
