Title: Looks Like I'll Park the bikes for awhile
Post by: Bob_Roller on June 20, 2024, 07:24:19 PM
Well the temperature here in the low desert of south cantral Aridzona finally got to me .
Temps have been 110 to 115 F when I get out of work at 1630 .
Not feeling well when I get home .
So it looks like I'll park the bikes for awhile .
I've lived here for 31 years this the first time it's really got to me .
Weather forecast is 112-115 F for the next 7 days .

That is way too hot. 80F over here (which is about as hot as it gets mostly), but yet more rain coming. We've lost our seasons this year and it goes from cold and wet to warm and wet.

I hope it passes soon Bob.

Doesn't look like any relief from this heat any time soon .
We've had 16 days of daytime highs 110F + in June so far .
I left for work at 0400 Thursday the temperature display screen in my car showed 97 F.
That's an hour twenty minutes before sunrise .

I've worked in Phoenix enough to wonder why anyone would want to live there with their 5 month of Summer. Too brutal for me. Less of course you might have froze your butt off in Chicago for years, then you get a pass  ::)

I've lived here for 31 years and it just hit me hard . I was getting off of work at1330 never had an issue going home .
But my work schedule changes this year get off at 1630 temps show my car screen shows  114 to 119F .  Now I have to take surface streets 30 mph speed limit and 18 traffic lights .
Odd that you mentioned it, I did live in Chicago for 37 years before I moved here in 1993.

I feel your pain Bob.

The worst part about riding in those temperatures is from the radiant heat through the road as the bitumen acts as a heat sink during the day.  It's like riding though a furnace and that is probably the best way I can describe it.  If you use a ventilated jacket, it just sends that heat over your body and the last thing you need is to have all the sweat your body produces being wicked away by the airflow. Dehydration soon follows.

Trying to explain to someone from a cooler climate about keeping out of the heat and regularly consuming water and electrolytes is sometimes like talking to a brick wall.  By the time dehydration and heat stress turn into heat stroke, then it is too late and can be fatal.

A good decision.

The average temperature for July in Phoenix was 102.3 F
That is determined by adding the low temp and high temperature for the day and dividing by 2 .
Looks like I'll leave the bikes parked until some time in September.
