Hi All -
I recently purchased a 1980 R65 (build date 11/79) with approx 37k miles. I have read that the clutch/flywheel assembly was redesigned on the R65 for the model year 1981, which resulted in a lighter flywheel and modified clutch parts resulting in a better shifting experience. At this point I am not sure the clutch will need attention, but Iām curious to know if the difference is significant between the ā80 and ā81 models. And if so, is it possible or even worthwhile to update the clutch to later specs if needed. I recall lightening the flywheel for my ā79 R100RS in an effort to improve gear shifting with marginal success, but unsure if this is the same issue.
Thanks for the help!!

Hi,
The flywheel is different, as is the whole clutch mechanism, and... the input of the gearbox. The shaft is not the same. Add to this (I think) the clutch actuator.
Using RealOem you can check what P/N have changed between the two years.
