Title: Starter Motor Again
Post by: Adrian on August 29, 2022, 03:56:06 AM
Hi once again - I am about to replace the old starter motor with the new Nippon Denso. The old starter has a small triangular plate at the rear to steady the unit - the denso does not and has no place to bolt this on. I am assuming that it will still work fine even without this plate attached.
.
Thoughts anyone

Well,
The BOSCH unit is heavy and powerful. The third attaching point is IMHO necessary for it. It will prevent vibrations and bending the tabs at the flywheel.
If the DENSO is lighter maybe you do not need the plate and bolts...

UPDATE:
.
Denso fitted this arvo - works beautifully - very quick spin - so much better than the Old Bosch 👍😉

Hi Adrian, no the extra bracket is not required. I also was very happy with a geared starter. My old Bosch wasn't worn out - just needed brushgear cleaning, but 860 hi compression combined with smaller R65 battery meant it struggled when cold.
