Title: 248 exhaust
Post by: madboxer on March 30, 2022, 01:25:20 PM
Hi all, just wondering, I bought a " pair" of  Brituro exhaust silencers for my 1980 R65 off fleabay and what I got was two different sized exhausts, neither of which fits. the slip on end on the new ones is 38mm and my seems to be original headers are 35mm (or 36mm maybe, I can't remember) are these maybe off a later bike or something?
Any help gratefully received.

Hello,
The R65 has 36 mm dia headers. All other bikes have 38 mm dia headers.... And maybe a different length ? (this I do not know).
So either you devise a set of adapter to make a 36 mm tube fit snugly into a 38 mm hole or you return them...

I would be inclined to return them.  From the picture they look to be, in addition to the wrong inlet size, different lengths!  Were they advertised as being for an R65?

Yes they were and yes they are. The problem with returning them is the length of time I've had them. Ah well  it's only money.

How long have you had them and where did you get them?

Ouch...  I would still bring it up to the seller.

Adaptor sleeves are easy. A small piece of 1mm sheet stainless steel carefully cut so that when rolled up the edges just but together. Fit inside the mufflers a d clamp as per normal.

Tony, yeah, spacers would be pretty easy but the mufflers are different lengths.  That seems to me that the system as a whole would be somewhat unbalanced besides looking kinda strange!

That's what I thought too.
