I know it has been discussed before but the difference changing/upgrading the paper clip shift linkage to something better is well worthwhile . The piece of wire on my bike was very worn at both ends making the travel at the lever even worse . I assembled my own because it is cheaper and I like doing stuff like that .

One of my R100s has one, while I don't recommend regular use, particularly on a 1978 R100RS but it has got me out of trouble a few times.

Monty(Montmil) used to assemble some and sell to us. I actually have one from him that is "lost" in my garage.
Monty's hour glass ran out of sand a few years ago.
I sure miss that guy, he was our poor mans Will Rogers with his sense of humor.

A DIY solution is trivial, two small Heim joints, two bolts to mount the Heim joints and a piece of threaded rod.
I did buy one that was on offer from a member (Montmil?) but when it arrived I realised it was made from imperial components, it remains somewhere in my spares collection.
I discovered that metric joints are available in left and right hand threads and cutting a left hand thread on a piece of for became my first ever LHT cutting project on my lathe. Having opposed left and right hand threads greatly simplified adjustment of the year lever, an important consideration on the target bike as both my wife and I ride it and my feet are somewhat large......

A lovely motorsport RS.
As mentioned I have two RS machines. The most recent is an Australian made 1982 JPS of which only 30 were made. These were nothing more than a paint job and a badge being otherwise stock standard.
The second is a 1978 which was the quickest model R100 made. When first bought the only colour available was metallic gold, which I hated, I would have had to wait 6 months for a black one so I accepted the good one and took it to a good painter.....
Even very "tired" it is quicker than the later JPS
