I just need something equally epic to bolt it down to now!
My (relatively trusty) Chinese 4" device next to it. The rotation part of that gave up in 6 months and the screw has a bit of a wobble in it. This thing is literally like a tank though. Threads, spring and all hidden parts in really good condition. The man says he has a bigger one if I am interested... this is over 30kg.

Awesome.
I inherited my vice from my father when he replaced it with a newer one. The thing that I like about it was that it came from his father, so I am using my late grandfather's vice. The special family is connection is even greater because my grandfather rode Indian motorcycles in the day when everyone rode because cars were too expensive.

Not a bad vice.
I have to be a similar size but made of welded plate and offset.

Cleaned and greased. Not going to paint as it will always have something oily in or round it! The jaw screws were mostly stripped and the jaws slightly banana-shaped. The jaw beds flat though and minimal wear elsewhere. So I've helicoiled the threads, turned down some M8 countersunk screws to fit and ground the backs of the jaws flat. Bit of grinding on the front, but the jaws come together properly now and don't move.
Unlike the chinese vise, there are no pockets, hard bits or trash in the cast iron. Even tapping into blind holes was straightforward with lots of consistent, tiny chips. Also no bondo/filler under the paint like the cheap one! It's bolted to my bench for now, I really need a cast-in-situ rebar and cement or hot rivet H-beam construction to mount it on. Maybe some 50x100 box if I can find some.

My Chinese vice is good except that i used it to hole hot metal for bending purposes on the ends and it removed the hardening which shrunk the ends a bit and it is no longer perfectly straight. One day I will take them off and heat the entire jaws and hopefully the will be the same all the way across.
