New member/old guy
My first BMW was a late '81 R65 that I bought from the original owner in May '83. I rode in the mountains of Arizona and California for some years without ever learning much about it, or needing to. I replaced fluids and batteries and it ran.
My current bike is the same one, except now it's 40 years old and has been stored for way too long. So have I. So I'm going through it, replacing stuff and getting it ready to roll again this spring, and needing to learn as I go.

Hello Gene, welcome to the forum, you will find a wealth of information here about your R65, sorta a "one stop shopping" of what the hell is wrong with this?
I too did not know much about BMW's when I started riding them, didn't need to, they always seemed to fire up and get me home without a lot of fanfare and maintenance. Like you said, it/we are 40 years older and both take a wee bit more maintenance than before.
If you need somebody to tag along to Lake Tahoe or check out the road from Arcata to Red Bluff, ring me up.

Welkom Gene,
I once went water skiing in one of the dams in AZ with friends but sadly have no ridden through there. Beautiful countryside though.
