I did a complete carb cleanup and replaced all gaskets, o-rings and bellows. Stats fine but having trouble getting an even idle. Checked plugs and shows even coat of carbon. Replaced plugs with new and after a couple of minutes at idle and a 5 min ride, the new plugs show another even coat of carbon.
Tried to adjust idle mixture but did very little. Currently at 1 turn out.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mike

Soak the carbs in cleaner again. Still have a passage stopped up.

(1983)R65 idle screw start setting is 0.5 turns out. I have mine leaner than that with silent hektic ignition. 1 turn is far too rich. Check 1985 with your carb number here.

If you are not getting adjustment when you turn the idle jets you have a passage fouled. Blow carb cleaner thru them till they all squirt cleanly. The attached animation is a good picture of what you're after.

This is likely the issue. I was following a general airhead carb rebuild video. Thanks for that resource. Once the snow melts I'll clean the plugs, start at 1/2 turn and try again.
Thanks!
