Title: Beezers are Back?
Post by: Justin B. on December 05, 2021, 03:01:21 PM
Well, it appears the practice of reviving old names from the trash heap of history continues and BSA appears to be the latest.  Hopefully Mahindra won't put out a shoddy cheap product like the Chinese do when they acquire the rights to a name...

Having a look tomorrow. Hopefully they have not recreated the awkward engineering, leaks and primitive electrics.

Plus a few others to see at the NEC.

I think I still have a handful of Zener diodes somewhere in the garage. I  loved my Nortons until I discovered BMW's didn't leak oil. (1973)

I like them. A few pre-production bits to finish (wiring looms not fully finished, odd jubilee clip out of place here and there) but a dinky little thing that I can still sit on without looking like Kermit on a lily pad. Aggedly less than £8,000 when they go on sale Month 3 or 4 next year.

The radiator does not stick out as much as the photos suggest. The tank is actually wider. Fit and finish look good. If they get 60BHP out of later versions (should be achievable with 4 valves and PI and the dual plugs) then they should have a winner.

I could not see any engineering cludges, but maybe wait a few months in case they have HD type piston/barrel troubles or glass gearboxes. There is no excuse for them not to handle so watching with interest.

The Triumph 1200 Scrambler is a neat and slim bike. I don't like the new BMW adventure bikes at all - The tiny front wheel matching the latest superbikes and the huge amount of plastic around the tank and shoulders make them ugly, hyena-shaped things. The Triumph is a gazelle by comparison.

The new Indians look fantastic, but very heavy pricing. Latest Goldwing is like a supertanker with extra size and equally heavy price. it grows on you (and growing any huger can't be good for it!). Several 125cc 'cruisers' that actually look alright and £2,000-£3,000.

Second pic is from the home-team stand (I'm sorry to say). The 1800 looks ridiculous in the flesh, they had several pseudo-custom-tribute-tat dress ups that just make it look worse. As a 1940s wannabe it sort of looks semi OK, but next to real choppers and vintage bikes it is actually a cartoon in the Jessica Rabbit style.

For a genuine BSA I have a B50 for sale.

P.S The original Gold Star on stand wasn't leaking, but the Trident was crossing it's legs and various choppers were definitely struggling! Even a Yamaha!!! Must be the bright lights and the skinfull of unleaded the night before.....

Oh the 250cc 75BHP Langen 2 stroke was equal with BSA and BMW for punters. https://langenmotorcycles.co.uk/ (https://langenmotorcycles.co.uk/)

The Keeway Superlight attracted the missus. Also the Indian Scout. The 125 does look quite reasonable. Put next to the Scout it would not look daft. She hasn't passed her test so the Scout might be some way in the future.

Hi Skippy! Too far away for me   :(

So with the Beeza and the shroud over the front forks, is that to hide the single layer of soft chrome that is non-hardened?

As for the second one from the "home stand", Jesus wept.   :steinigung:  :drowning: I need a huge face palm emoji.  The only use I can see for it is as a boat anchor.
