Folks
My R65 has been RS'd from new - bloody awful 'bars for a chap of my years ;)
I'm going back to standard (naked) - I've been through the usual search - I found references to European style handlebars ?
What would be the standard bars for an R65 Mono - rise, pull back and width ?
If anyone has these dimensions, or has a spare set in the UK, please let me know.
Regards
Chopper

I don't know the numbers off hand but you will want the "US" or "Touring" bars. European bars are fairly low slung but not "straight" like RS bars...

these badboys are standard in North America (Canada in my case) US bars

I just took them off, I can measure them if you want.
I found this photo of a stock R65 mono from a UK site before a resto and these must be the Euro Spec bar

Yes, please - the US ones look like full-on RT bars. There should be a part # stamped on the RH end, which would be useful.

Hi chopper.
My 1982 UK model R65 bars are:
620 mm end to end,
52 mm raise
angled back 20%
flat/straight bit in the middle 130mm
flat/straight section at each end 200mm
The reason I mention these non monoshock measurements is that, these bars can be used within the RS fairing if you wanted to keep it. (Perhaps shaving a little off the ends may be required).

Mr. Chopper.
Took some pics and measurements.
Check it out here on my Picassa.

Here's how they fit when I had them on.

Hello Chaps
After a quick check on the old girl, it is apparent that I cannot go much beyond the standard Euro bars, due to the restricted cable length.
Checking the fiche sites, the US spec bikes have the longer RT cable set, whilst Euro bikes have a standard set (also compatible with the RS bars).
So, replace choke, clutch, throttle x2, plus brake hose, or go Euro bars ;)
Anyone in the UK got a set of standard genuine BMW bars at a reasonable price, please ?

You will probably need to extend your wiring as well by about 4 inches.
Get out the soldering iron and heat gun.
I have just removed a scabby set of RT bars off of my R100. I had to undo someones hard work. I like Euro bars ;D. Put my old r65 bars on instead.
Had to change the clutch cable

I fitted flattrack bars to my mono R65 - 33in wide with 9in sweep back.I had to fit long throttle cables, and a long choke cable.I ran the clutch cable on the other side of the steering head, and it is not stretched.I also ran the brake cable below the steering head, and that works too, also looks a bit messy.Wiring extended with no problems.

What with all the chat about different handlebars for our R65s, thought I'd mention that a buddy at work has a beautiful 1978-ish R100S. He runs some nice looking 0.875-inch diameter solid aluminum bars he bought from a local bike shop.
I've noticed offerings in a variety of bends, lifts, pull back angle plus lots of nice looking anodized finishes. Find something you like and saw 'em off to the proper length. R100 guy says they tend to "buzz" less than than his old steelies. Prices are reasonable, too.
Hummm... Some black anodized euro trash bars would look good on my '81 since the cow's tongue is long gone.

The BMW control perches have been known to crack when forced over a 7/8" diameter bar. Not always, but it has happened so any potential purchaser might need to keep this in mind...
