When I put the Keihan exhaust on my '82 LS I took the opportunity to snug up the sidestand screw that was working itself loose and give it a couple drops of red loctite for good measure. Nevertheless, the clevis portion of the stand has opened up a bit and with the stand extended you can lift it up and down. It also isn't landing properly on the bump stop/exhaust clamp.
I've heard over the years that these sidestands have a bad reputation for failure, but I've never heard the details on how they fail. I know there are better options out there, but while I've got a factory stand it would be good to know what to look for to keep my bike on her tires.

The Clevis opening up is the usual failure mode. The one on the :Norton:wife's bike cracked and was replaced at that point. One thing you can do is renew the bronze bush it pivots on and while it is off the bike have someone with a press close the Clevis down to standard . If you are really keen you could also renew the tempering.
