I was working on the Guzzi last weekend, had the seat and side panels off .
I had a lot of electrical issues when I first got the bike 12 years ago, easy fix once I found that the majority of ground wires were not in contact with the frame .
The previous owner had neglected to put the grounds on the negative battery cable where it bolted to the frame .
The diode board is located under the left side panel in a good airflow area .
I saw the large diameter wire lead that I made and thought I'd pass this on .
There are two output terminals on the diode board, I added this extra wire from the board to the battery, improved charging system performance .
If you have the area around the diode board opened up, it's an easy addition to make .
If you have not been in this area before, the output wire from the diode board goes to the positive terminal of the starter .

For you tinkering types
You can make a diode board out of a Delco 10SI alternator work and is heavier duty and cheaper ;)

I still have the OEM diode boards on the R65's and Guzzi .
I'm surprised the board on the '81 R65 is still functioning, with the lighting load it's had for the last 20 years .
Everything is now LED and the charging system voltage is higher than it's ever been, rarely drops below 13 volts at idle .
I bought 2 aftermarket heavy duty diode boards a few years ago off of local Craigslist, 2 for $60 .

LED Bulbs are the best upgrade you can do.
Really makes all the after market heavy duty charging system parts obsolete ;D

Hello !
I also have the original diode board into the front cover... At more than 200 000 km of permanently lit front headlight, it is not that bad. I had a regulator failure (output transistor) taken care of under warranty and a hall sensor failure (in the shop ! )
So all in all, the electrical parts are wonderful !

I was seriously considering an upgraded charging system, glad I didn't go through with it .

Since I have the upgraded charging system on all my bikes it has been longer than any stock diode board was installed.
